Abdominal colostomy surgery. Close-up of an open abdominal wound after a laparotomy for a colostomy. The wound has a very small amount of necrotic debris but otherwise is clean, pink, and healthy. A colostomy is an operation in which part of the colon (large intestine) is brought through an incision in the abdominal wall and formed into an artificial anus called a stoma. For a wider view of this surgery, see image C029/9045.
