Intensive care unit machines. At left is an extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO), used to oxygenate the blood in a similar way to similar a heart-lung bypass machine. In the background at centre is a mechanical ventilator (this model is a Hamilton G5), used to aid lung function. At right is a continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machine, used for those with kidney failure. These machines are all used to support patients in a hospital intensive care unit (ICU).
