Caption

DNA sequencing. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) equipment being used to sequence DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA sequencing determines the exact order of the four bases that make up a gene. Genes are regions of DNA that determine each cell's structure, function and behaviour. Here, the DNA is cut into fragments and each base is labelled with a different fluorescent dye so that a detector can distinguish them.
