Caption

Spirostomum protozoa. Light microscopy footage of Spirostomum protozoa in a sample of pond water. Spirostomum is a ciliate protist that can reach a length of four millimetres in some species, very large for a single-celled organism. It feeds by wafting tiny food particles into its mouth with a group of specialised cilia. This clip was filmed with darkfield illumination.
