Pemphigus. Historical medical illustration showing Fig.1: pemphigus vulgaris and Fig.2: pemphigus foliaceus. Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune disorder causing blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. Pemphigus foliaceus is a more benign form of the disease, and does not involve the mucous membranes. From Atlas of Venereal and Skin Diseases by Prince Albert Morrow, published in 1889.
