Anandamide neurotransmitter. Computer model of a molecule of the neurotransmitter anandamide. Also known as arachidonoylethanolamide or AEA, this neurotransmitter acts on receptors in the brain and other areas of the nervous system that are affected by the use of cannabis. AEA plays a role in memory, and is being investigated for other uses such aspain relief. The molecule's chemical formula is C22.H37.N.O2. The atoms are represented as colour-coded spheres in this space- filled model: carbon (light blue), hydrogen (yellow), nitrogen (dark blue) and oxygen (red).
