A quantum dot is a very small particle made of semiconducting material. Quantum dots are used in medical imaging, quantum computing, diode lasers, solar sells, and transistors. This illustration shows lead sulphide (PbS) quantum dots (spheres) covered with halide ligands (rods). Halide ligands are used for quantum dots stabilization.
