Aspartame. Molecular model of the artificial non-saccharide sweetener aspartame (C14.H18.N2.O5), used as a sugar substitute. Its main uses are in canned drinks and foods, and as a consumer-added sweetener. It is about 180 times sweeter than sugar. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), nitrogen (blue) and oxygen (red). Illustration.
