Polio virus, cause of poliomyelitis, RNA virus (Enterovirus C), Picornaviridae Family, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Polio virus is a human enterovirus that is composed of RNA and a protein capsid. The genome contains a single strand of RNA. The polio virus has a capsid morphology that is icosahedral symmetry that is non-enveloped. Since polio virus consists only of RNA and a protein coat is regarded as a simple virus. Magnification: x46,050 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
