Light micrograph of a section through kidney tissue affected by nephroangiosclerosis, showing thickening of the innermost lining (tunica intima, turquoise) of a renal arteriole, causing high blood pressure. Nephroangiosclerosis (hypertensive nephropathy) is damage to the kidney caused by chronic high blood pressure (hypertension). Magnification: x220, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
