Neurofibromatosis type II. Small nervous system tumours (schwannomas) and discolouration on the back of a 29-year-old female patient with neurofibromatosis type 2. Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a group of three conditions (NF1, NF2 and schwannomatosis) in which tumors grow in the nervous system. NF tumours are usually benign (non-cancerous). NF2 is characterised ringing in the ears and a loss of balance. Many patients with NF2 also develop benign schwannomas on or underneath the surface of their skin (seen here).
