Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Halobacterium sp. is a halophilic, archaea (prokaryote). It is rod-shaped, aerobic, archaea that was found growing at high salinity (4 molar salt). They also grow on amino acids in their aerobic conditions. Many of their proteins will not function in low-salt environments. Archaea were formerly called Archaebacteria or Archaeobacteria. Magnification: x1,600 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
