Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Methylobacterium rhodesianum, rod or pleomorphic (branched), aerobic, facultative methylotrophic bacterium (PPFM). M. rhodesianum < is found in all environments and has been recently isolated from soil dust, fresh water, lake sediments, leaf surfaces, plant nodules, rice grains and hospital environments. It can be easily isolated from any freshwater environment where dissolved oxygen exists. It has the ability to utilize methane as the sole carbon source. It characteristically produces polyhydroxybutyrate (polyhydroxybutyric acid). Magnification: x3,200 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
