Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Streptococcus viridans, Gram-positive, coccoid prokaryote (dividing). S.viridans is a common bacterium that inhabitants the oropharynx (mouth and throat). It can also be found in the gut and urogenital tracts. It can cause human infections, including dental disease (tooth decay), endocarditis and abdominal abscesses. Magnification: x4,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
