Camponotus herculeanus (formerly known as Formica herculeana) is call the Hercules ant) in family Formicidae (carpentar ants). It is a boreal and montane species inhabiting spruce-fir and pine forests, especially in the NW United States. This common species normally nests in rotten logs and stumps, but nests are occasionally found under stones. Magnification: x18 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
