Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of American cockroach, ventral view (Periplaneta americana). These cockroaches generally live in moist areas, but can survive in dry areas if they have access to water. They prefer warm temperatures around 84 degrees Fahrenheit. They feed on a wide variety of plant and animal material. American cockroaches are the largest of the common roaches. Magnification: x4 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
