Amphipod. Four views of a Mediterranean amphipod, of the suborder Hyperiidea. Amphipods are small aquatic crustaceans, typically having a laterally flattened body and fourteen limbs. They form part of the zooplankton: small, floating marine animals that are an important food source for many larger animals. Most hyperiids are parasites or predators of salps and jellyfish.
