Caption

Flatfish larva. Flatfish larvae swim in open water and look very different from the adults, which live on or near the seabed. They are translucent in early larval stages. As the larva develops, one of its eyes migrates to the dorsal side of the head. The eye of this larva is still in the process of migration.
