Violet sea snail eggs. Eggs of the violet sea snail (Janthina janthina), supported by a raft of bubbles. The violet sea snail or common violet snail, is a species of planktonic sea snail which lives at the surface of the water, floating on a raft of bubbles. The snail begins life as a male and later changes to a female. The eggs are held by the female until they develop into larvae, which are free swimming.
