Flood alleviation scheme. Floodwater running through the Cockshaw Burn Flood Alleviation Scheme, Hexham, Northumberland. This scheme is designed to help keep floodwater from damaging the town. The grills (bottom) are designed to catch debris in the water as it passes. The white marker on the wall (left) is used to measure the depth of the water.
