Constellation of Sagittarius. Optical image of the stars of the southern constellation of Sagittarius (the Archer). The brightest star is Epsilon Sagittarii (blue, lower centre). This constellation has 12 main stars. It is one of the 88 modern constellations adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1922. The nebulae and dust clouds of the Milky Way feature prominently in this constellation. It is also one of the constellations of the zodiac.
