Constellation of Virgo. Optical image of the stars of the equatorial constellation of Virgo (the Virgin). The brightest star is Spica or Alpha Virginis (blue, lower centre). This constellation has 15 main stars. It is one of the 88 modern constellations adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1922. It is also one of the constellations of the zodiac.
