Taxol. Polarised light micrograph of crystals of taxol. Taxol is a chemotherapeutic drug which was discovered in 1992. It is found in the bark of the Pacific Yew (Taxus brevifolia), and has been found effective against some tumours, notably breast and ovarian. Research efforts are being focused on synthesising the drug, as T.brevifolia is an endangered species. Magnification: x25 at 6x7cm size.
