Sheep's heart dissection. Close-up of a dissected sheep's heart, cut longitudinally to show the thick muscular wall of the left ventricle (lower right). Also visible are the left atrium, the papillary muscles, the chordae tendinae (heart strings), and the mitral valve. A sheep's heart is similar in size to that of a human, and is used to teach basic heart anatomy.
