Caption

Oxycodone crystals, polarised light micrograph. Oxycodone is a prescription analgesic (painkiller) drug that is marketed under the trade name OxyContin. It is a powerful drug that is used to treat chronic pain. It stimulates the same receptors in the brain that respond to drugs like opium and heroin. It is equally, if not more, addictive as heroin and has been taken as a substitute by recreational drug users. Because of this, oxycodone is classed as a controlled substance.
