Fatty growth, called a xanthoma, seen on the lower eyelid of a 48-year-old man. Xanthelasma is the localised occurrence of xanthoma on the eyelids. Severe cases can indicate a fat metabolism disorder and the presence of xanthomata is usually accompanied by a raised blood cholesterol level. High cholesterol is a value of over 5 millimoles per litre. This patient had a blood cholesterol reading of 7.6 millimoles per litre.
