Caption

Fluid extracted from a knee effusion. An effusion is the accumulation of fluid in a joint, in this case the knee, usually due to injury. This patient, a 63-year-old man, has osteoarthritis, which makes him more susceptible to developing an effusion since osteoarthritis causes an excessive production of synovial fluid in the joints.
