Crew Exploration Vehicle in Earth orbit. Illustration of a Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) in low Earth orbit at an altitude of about 400 kilometres. Various CEV designs have been produced, including the Orion spacecraft for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). They typically carry a crew of 2 to 6 astronauts. This CEV is 10 metres long with a maximum diameter of just over 6 metres, while the solar voltaic panels have a maximum spread of around 18.5 metres.
