CEV docking with inflatable space habitat. Illustration of a Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV, left) docking with an inflatable space habitat (right) in low Earth orbit at an altitude of about 400 kilometres. Various CEV designs have been produced, including the Orion spacecraft for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). They typically carry a crew of 2 to 6 astronauts. This CEV is 10 metres long with a maximum diameter of just over 6 metres, while the solar voltaic panels have a maximum spread of around 18.5 metres. The inflatable space habitat is inflated in orbit with a pressurized and breathable atmosphere. It provides a comfortable weightless environment for several astronauts, though it has no propulsion system of its own. It has a diameter of around 9 metres, and a docking adapter compatible with the International Docking System Standard (IDSS).
