Laughing gull. Laughing gull (Larus atricilla) on a beach. This seabird lives mainly along the eastern coast of the USA, the Caribbean Sea and northern South America. In the winter the more northern populations migrate as far south as Peru. This bird feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates, but will also take carrion and refuse. This habit has led it further inland, feeding on human detritus. Laughing gulls may have a wingspan of up to a metre. Photographed in Texas, USA.
