Coloured angiograms (blood vessel X-rays) of the right lower legs of a 77-year-old man, showing before (left) and after (right) images for the treatment of blockages of the anterior tibial and peroneal (fibular) arteries. The treatment involved the use of balloon catheters inflated inside the arteries to restore the blood flow. The operation is known as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA).
