Light micrograph of an unripe seed capsule of the scarlet pimpernel plant, Anagallis arvensis, a common wild flower. One of the five sepals is removed, to show the seeds in detail. When the seed capsule is mature, the upper part opens like the lid of a box, releasing the ripe seeds within. Microscopic contrast technique : Incident lighting.
