Caption

An early larval stage of the Deepwater Flounder, Monolene sessilicauda. Larvae live in the water column until they mature into an adult form and fall out of the pelagic habitat, to live life on the sea floor. This individual was trawled up in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015.
