Field bolete (Boletus campestris). Mycorrhizal with hardwoods (especially oaks), Red or reddish or pink. Flesh discolours when cut, bruised or damaged. Grows on the ground, Found in fields, lawns or on roadsides. Flesh bright yellow bruising blue-green. Odour pleasant. Taste pleasant. Habitat gregarious in short grass in lawns and woodland edges. Found widely distributed in eastern North America. Season June-September. Edible.
