Light micrograph of a sessile suctorian ciliate Acineta tuberosa, attached to a cladophora alga filament. Acineta suctorian ciliates have a flattened, pyramid-shaped lorica, fastened on a long stalk. Suctorian ciliates feed by extracellular digestion with their sticky tentacles. Microscopic contrast technique : Differential interference contrast. Magnification 400x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
