Leukaemia cancer cells. Fluorescence light micrograph of cells from a type of blood cancer, an acute form of leukaemia. The cells are stained with monoclonal antibody (green) to detect membrane-bound transgenic protein. Leukaemia affects the bone marrow and results in high numbers of abnormal white blood cells. This is a human form of the disease, with this culture known as cell line K562. Magnification: x365 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
