Anaemia is a decrease in the total amount of red blood cells or haemoglobin in the blood. Pernicious anaemia is caused by a deficiency in vitamin B12 or folic acid, due to the intestine being unable to absorb these substances. Symptoms include tiredness and lowered immunity.
