Squamous cell papilloma . Close-up of a 53-year-old male patient's nose with a benign squamous cell papilloma (wart, centre). Papillomas are benign (non-cancerous) growths caused by infection with the human papilloma virus (HPV). There are over thirty types of HPV. Some warts spontaneously disappear, while others may need to be surgically removed.
