Neuronal columns in zebrafish, illustration. In zebrafish neuronal columns are found in the optic tectum of the midbrain. Neurons (nerve cells, centre) are organized between the synaptic neuropil (bottom left corner) and peripheral midbrain layer (upper right corner). Neurons branch out in areas immediately adjacent to the column. These structures facilitate neuronal processes.
