Endometriosis in the vagina, colposcopy. Endometriosis (dark bluish area) in the vaginal wall. Endometriosis is a condition where cells from the inner lining (endometrium) of the uterus appear and flourish outside the uterine cavity, most commonly on the membrane which lines the abdominal cavity, the peritoneum. Here, a small cyst of uterine lining appears in the wall of the vagina next to the cervix (right). Endometriosis can cause pain and lead to infertility.
