Keloid scars. Keloid scars on acne lesions of the back in a 17 year old male patient. Acne is a skin disorder in which the sebaceous glands become inflamed. The most common form, acne vulgaris, begins in adolescence. Blockage of hair follicles by sebum plugs causes pustules and blackheads. Persistent, chronic acne results in infected cysts and scarring of the skin. Keloid scars are enlarged scars consisting of masses of collagen fibres, forming at the site of injury as a result of a defective healing process.
