Caption

Phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis. Close-up of the right eye of a patient with acute phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis (also known as phlyctenulosis). Keratoconjunctivitis is inflammation of the cornea (the transparent front part of the eye) and the conjunctiva (the membrane covering the white of the eye). Treatment is by avoiding the cause and treatment with antihistamines. Phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis is a hypersensitivity reaction to antigens such as microbial proteins. An acute condition (as opposed to a chronic one) is one with a sudden onset, usually of a relatively short duration.
