Caption

Acute anterior uveitis. Close-up of the left eye of a patient with acute anterior uveitis. Uveitis is the inflammation of the uvea, the middle pigmented structures of the eye. It is usually caused by an autoimmune disorder but may be caused by infection. There is also posterior iris-lens synechia present, a condition where the iris adheres to the lens. An acute condition (as opposed to a chronic one) is one with a sudden onset, usually of a relatively short duration.
