Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by infection by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In most cases it affects the lungs (pulmonary tuberculosis), which is generally fatal if untreated. In some cases it affects the skin, causing a rash. This form of the disease can cause ulceration and destruction of underlying tissues.
