Coloured Computed Tomography (CT) scan of the whole arterial system. At centre is the aorta, the main artery of the body. Above the heart the aortic arch branches into the brachiocephalic artery, the left carotid artery and the left subclavian artery. In the abdomen the renal (kidney) arteries branch from the aorta before it divides into the two iliac arteries that serve the legs. The black spots on the aorta are atheromatous plaques.
