Tacrine. Computer model of a molecule of the drug tacrine. It is sold under the brand name Cognex. It is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor drug, used to treat Alzheimer's disease by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This drug was the first acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor approved for use to treat Alzheimer's disease. The molecule's chemical formula is C13.H14.N2. Atoms (spheres) are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (light blue), nitrogen (dark blue).
