Freezing blood samples. Blood sample being removed or placed in cryogenic storage at low temperatures. This allows later analysis of the samples to repeat tests or carry out new tests. Blood is analysed for levels of components such as cholesterol and glucose, for pathogens like bacteria and viruses, and to determine a person's blood group. Blood tests can be haematological, biochemical or microbiological. Haematological tests analyse the components of the blood. Biochemical tests identify chemicals in the blood. Microbiological tests are for microbes such as bacteria, viruses and fungi.
