Naltrexone drug, molecular model. This drug, marketed as Revia, blocks the body's opioid receptors, and is therefore used in the treatment of addiction to heroin and other opiate drugs. It is also used in the treatment of alcohol addiction, as it reduces relapses in those who have given up drinking. The mechanism by which it helps alcoholics is not clear, however. In this molecule, atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (green), hydrogen (white), oxygen (red) and nitrogen (blue).
