Icosahedral virus, computer model. This virus has an icosahedral capsid with 20 triangular faces and protruding surface proteins which allow the virus capsid to attach to its target cells. Viruses contain a core of genetic material, either DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) or RNA (ribonucleic acid) surrounded by a protein coat, or capsid, and sometimes an outer glycoprotein envelope.
