Caption

Newly moulted earwig. Earwig that has just moulted (left) next to a normal adult (right). Earwigs (order Dermaptera) are nocturnal insects, spending the day in moist dark cavities. The earliest fossils of earwigs were found in sediments from the late Triassic (about 208 million years) in England and Australia.
